What Is Happening Below the Slab
Concrete settlement becomes more urgent when it creates a trip edge, sends water toward a building, blocks a door, changes a garage threshold, or continues to move after each season.
Not every settled slab is an emergency. The concern rises when people walk across the area daily, water is pooling against the home, cracks are widening, or nearby foundation movement is suspected.
What to Check First
- Whether the slab is intact or fractured into several loose pieces.
- Whether water drains toward the low area or away from it.
- Whether the height difference creates a trip edge or door clearance problem.
- Whether nearby slabs or foundation-adjacent concrete are moving too.
